The LaGrange baseball team used an eight run fourth inning to breeze past Fayette County 12-2 and keep themselves atop the region standings with just three games left in the season.

The Grangers let up two runs in the top of the first inning but the home team dominated from there. The home team answered rather quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cole Garner doubled to drive in two runs for LaGrange and just like that the game was tied with no outs. Tanner Langley grounded out to drive in the third run later in the inning to give LaGrange a lead it would never relinquish. 

The Grangers poured it on in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs. Preston Pressley got it all started when he scored on an error. Pressley was far from done and would steal the headlines later in the inning when he sent a home run over the center field walk to drive in the tenth and eleventh run of the game for the Grangers. Gryson Cockrell popped out to clear the bases for the Grangers and give them a dominant 7-2 lead. Robbie Parker hit an RBI double to drive in the ninth run. Brandon Bennett grounded into a fielder’s choice to make it 9-2.  

Seth Stargell scored on an error in the fifth inning to end the game by the run rule. 

Trey Cook was impressive at the top of the order, going 3-for-3 with four steals, two runs scored and a walk. Garner and Pressley were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Parker had a hit in the game.

Cockrell led the Grangers with three RBIs while Stargell led the team with three RBIs while also stealing four bases. 

After letting up a home run in the first inning, Trevor Booton made adjustments and dominated the rest of the way, streaking out eight batters while only allowing six hits in his five inning complete game. 

LaGrange is now 19-8 and 10-1 in region play. The Grangers have just three region games left on the schedule with a rematch against Fayette County scheduled for Thursday on the road followed by two games against rivals Troup. If the Grangers win out, they will win back-to-back region championships.
