Three suspects in a Newnan shoplifting were fleeing from police at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour before wrecking into another vehicle in Hogansville Friday, according to a police report from the Newnan Police Department.

Three people were airlifted from the scene, according to a preliminary report from Georgia State Patrol. The suspects have not yet been identified.

The NPD press release said a Coweta County deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the Ulta Beauty shoplifting and initiated a traffic stop near the 38-mile marker on Interstate 85. GSP identified that vehicle as a Toyota Corolla.

The deputy approached the vehicle and asked for identification for the three occupants, at which time the driver put the car in drive and fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed, according to the press release.

CCSO deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle, which reached speeds in excess of 120mph. While being pursued, the offender vehicle weaved recklessly across all lanes of traffic and into emergency lanes. The lead deputy attempted multiple PIT Maneuvers (Precision Immobilization Technique) on the vehicle but each time the deputy tried to get in position, the offender vehicle swerved toward the patrol vehicle trying to strike it, according to the press release.

The pursuit came to an end at the top of the exit ramp in Hogansville (Exit 28) when the offender vehicle struck another vehicle, identified by GSP as a GMC pickup truck. Coweta County deputies approached the offender vehicle using a shield and took the three occupants into custody.

Two occupants of the offender vehicle, as well as the male driver of the car struck by the offender vehicle were flown to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.

The Newnan Police Department will be taking charges in reference to the felony theft from Ulta. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office will be taking charges on the driver for felony fleeing and reckless driving. Georgia State Patrol worked the accident between the offender vehicle and civilian vehicle and will be taking charges against the driver for several counts of serious injury by motor vehicle, according to the NPD press release.
