The Callaway baseball team was on the wrong end of a 3-0 pitcher’s duel in the first round of the AA state playoffs on Monday and will now prepare for game two against North Cobb in what has become a must-win game for the Cavaliers to keep their season alive.

While the Callaway bats never got rolling, Brantin Swanson was electric on the mound to keep the Cavaliers in the game. He pitched a six inning complete game in which he only allowed five hits and three earned runs on six strikeouts. 

North Cobb started the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, as that was all that separated the two sides until North Cobb was able to score two more runs on a double in the bottom of the sixth with two outs.

The Callaway offense just could not find any traction, with the team only able to come away with three hits in the game — one for Bryce Hubbard and two from Luke Taylor.

The closest the Cavaliers got to scoring was with a runner on first and one on second with two outs in the bottom of the first inning as they could not find a way to come up with a key hit.

Callaway will play again on Monday for game two, and if the Cavaliers can pull out a win, they will force a game three to be played at North Cobb on Tuesday.
