Early voting will begin for the special election to fill the unexpired District 1 LaGrange City Council seat on Tuesday, May 30.

Former councilman Jim Arrington will face off against Terry Stanford for the vacant seat.

Arrington along with then Council Member Willie Edmondson, resigned from their council seats following the Jan. 24 council meeting in order to run for mayor. After Arrington’s unsuccessful mayoral bid, he qualified for the election to regain his former seat.

Elections Supervisor Andy Harper said early voting will begin on Tuesday instead of Monday due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Once early voting begins, registered voters can cast their ballots in advance at the Troup County Government Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until June 16.

Two weekend early voting days will be available on Saturday, June 3 and Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Only registered voters in District 1 in LaGrange will be able to cast ballots in the election.

Election Day for the council race is set for June 20.
