According to the Troup County Coroner’s Office, a man who died Saturday night near railroad tracks on Addie Street had wounds conducive to being struck by a train.

Deputy Coroner Amy Sheppard said upon being found at 7:45 p.m., William “Floyd” Stargell, 77, had lacerations and fractures to the scalp and multiple broken ribs.

Sheppard said Stargell’s mother lives on Ware Street and she was told it wasn’t uncommon for him to walk back and forth across the railroad tracks going back and forth to her house.

Sheppard said investigators are working with CSX as they continue to look into it.

A LaGrange Police Department press release Wednesday said based on the injuries, it was determined Stargell was struck by the train.
