LaGrange will host a family event on Lafayette Square this weekend titled Youth Summit 2023 to inform parents of summer activities for kids.

The event was organized in part by Councilman Leon Childs, Mayor Willie Edmondson and Commissioner Jimmy McCamey.

“We wanted to put something together for the kids to have an event to go to where they had somewhere where they can have fun, but get all the resources they need for the summer,” Childs said.

Childs said along with fun family activities, organizations will share information on programs they have for kids this summer.

“You can go around to approximately 30 or 40 different organizations and sign your kids up for summer programs,” Childs said.

Troup County Parks and Recreation, the Troup County School System and many other community partners will be at the event to provide information on summer activities for kids.

“Parents are always saying that younger people don’t have anything to do when they get out of school, so we want to provide them with all these different organizations,” Childs said.

The event is free to the community and will also feature giveaways, music, food, games, live entertainment and a talent show. Childs said he hopes the event will inspire unity in the community and potentially help reduce the teen violence that has been plaguing LaGrange of late.

The event will be held on Lafayette Square in Downtown LaGrange on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Youth Summit 2023 is sponsored by the City of LaGrange, the Economic Development Authority, Mayor Willie Edmondson, A&W Tax Services, the Troup County School System, Looking Good, Teens R Us, AGCAO, Councilman Jimmy McCamey and Rhodes Sports Bar.
