On a social media post Friday, Troup High School principal Niki Watts announced that she is resigning at the end of the school year.

Watts noted in her post that she is a THS graduate and has spent her entire 24 year career in education “as part of this amazing staff.”

“But, as the old adage goes, there comes a time when everyone has to leave home,” Watts said. “To that end, it is with a heavy heart, full of countless conflicting emotions, that I am announcing my intent to resign from Troup High and the Troup County School System at the end of this school year to pursue another opportunity in educational leadership.”

According to previous reporting by the LDN, Watts is a 1995 Troup High graduate. Watts earned her undergraduate degree at LaGrange College and interned at THS during her time there. After her internship, she was hired by Troup in the fall of 2000. Before becoming principal, she worked at the school for 14 years as an English teacher and three years as an assistant principal. She was named principal in 2018.

She was the first female principal and the first alumna principal at THS, per previous LDN reporting.
