The Callaway boys soccer team had four different players named to the region 5-2A all region teams.

Nelson Herrera led the way for the Cavaliers and was the sole member to be named to the all-region first team. He was also named the team’s offensive player of the year at the soccer banquet on Tuesday. The standout attacking midfielder scored 20 goals and nine assists and is now on his way to playing college soccer at Warren Wilson in North Carolina next season.

On the second team was Avery Brooks, Connor Davis and Rickey Vaughn.

Brooks was a rock at the back for the Cavaliers. He was the vocal leader for the backline and will be a hard man to replace next season. Brooks was named as the team’s best defender at the soccer banquet. Brooks finished his senior season with two goals, contributing in attack as well as in defense.

Davis was the heartbeat of the team. He did it all for the Cavaliers whether it was in attack or defense. Davis finished his senior season with seven goals and four assists. Davis was named the team MVP at the team’s banquet.

Vaughn burst onto the scene this year. The freshman tallied 23 goals and seven assists and will look to have an even bigger year as he continues to grow on and off the field. Vaughn was also named rookie of the year by the team.

The Cavaliers also had three players named to the honorable mansion list — Jayden Bailey, Journee Jordan and Greyson Batchelor. Jordan scored 10 goals and chipped in two assists while Batchelor finished the season with four goals and three assists.
