John William Roberts, known to most as “Bill” was born March 10, 1927, in Hapeville, Georgia to the late Elizabeth Arrendal Roberts and Julius C. Roberts.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during World War II.
He worked for the United States Postal Service moving up the ranks to Postmaster in Lagrange. He retired after 38 years of service.
He was a member of Warm Springs United Methodist Church and was formerly president of the Optimus Club. He loved to travel and was very fond of his trips to Alaska.
He enjoyed the outdoors whether camping, hiking, or just enjoying the scenery. He was an antique enthusiast and loved to go into antique shops to admire and find the perfect piece.
John William Roberts, 96, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at Twin Fountains Nursing Home in LaGrange with his family by his side.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Charlotte S. Roberts; second wife, Marjorie Roberts; son, John W. “Johnny” Roberts; and siblings, Alma B. Quinn, Clifford “Cotton” Roberts, Virginia Roberts, and James F. Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Roberts; children, Sandy (Dennis) Palmer, Teri (Gary) Hinkle, Tommy Roberts, and Suzi (Brian) Pouncey; grandchildren, Jason Palmer, Jennifer (Phillip) Santellan, Miracle (Steven) Moncus, Page Roberts, Jeremiah (Crystal) Roberts, Beverly (BJ) Pemberton, Allen Hinkle, Michelle (Jacob) Harris, Dusty Melson, Michael Melson, Christopher (Roxanne) Pouncey, and Amanda Pouncey; twenty-seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
A graveside service was held 11 A.M. on Monday, August 29, 2023, at Warm Springs Cemetery with Rev. Merrie Roberts officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to West Georgia Hospice for the exceptional care they provide to Mr. Roberts and his family.
The Roberts family is being assisted by Cox Funeral Home of Manchester.
