Callaway High School has had to forfeit its biggest football victory of the season.
The Cavaliers posted on social media Wednesday that they had to forfeit their Aug. 25 victory over Cedartown because four student-athletes on the football team did not meet the eligibility requirements for athletic participation. The Cavaliers won the game 27-10 over the reigning 4A state runner-ups.
“These players participated in the football game on August 25 versus Cedartown, and as a result, the win must be forfeited,” the school wrote.
The post said the school was notified on Sept. 19 by GHSA officials.
“Please know that our school and athletic department is fully committed to following all GHSA bylaws,” the CHS post said. “We will continue to review this case and explore all appropriate steps going forward. We thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and athletic programs, as we strive to provide a positive experience for our entire community.”
Director of Media Relations Steve Figueroa said the school was fined but the GSHA does not release information on the amount of fines.
