Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center is continuing to grow its services in the LaGrange area.
Two new locations will be used by Wellstar — the old American Home Shield building at 106 Old Mill Road and a new parcel that will be in the new Publix parking lot on Vernon Street.
WGMC President Coleman Foss said more information will be released about the parcel near Publix in the months ahead.
“We do plan to have an extension of our services over there,” he said.
Progress with the American Home Shield building, which is 70,000 square feet, is further along. According to property records, Wellstar purchased the American Home Shield building for $4,080,000 in August 2022.
Foss said the plan is to house primary care physician offices, physical therapy/rehab services and lab services in the building.
“That will probably take only 40 percent of the building, and we will still have 60 percent [to use],” Foss said. “Our plan is to expand x-ray diagnostics out there and a lot of outpatient services.”
Foss said one of Wellstar’s focuses is on “health parks,” basically a description of a hospital that doesn’t have in-patient beds. He said several exist in the metro Atlanta area.
“People who need healthcare services don’t have to go in an in-patient structure to get their care, they can get in and out much quicker,” he said.
