A man was arrested Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for a murder that occurred on Lanett Avenue in LaGrange in 2020.

The 22-year-old suspect, identified as Deshaun Andrez Gates was arrested in Columbus on charges of felony murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. A LaGrange Police Department press release said Gates was identified as the suspect who killed Kendarrius Cameron, 24, during an attempted robbery of marijuana on Dec. 8, 2020.

Coleman had been located on the front porch of a home on 116 Lanett Avenue with a gunshot wound to the torso. Emergency medical aid was provided at the scene and Cameron was transported to Wellstar West Georgia where he later died of his injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that an unknown person(s), now identified as Gates, knocked on the door before entering the home and shooting Cameron.

At the time of his arrest, the LPD said Deshaun Andrez Gates also had active arrest warrants for aggravated assault (two counts), participation in criminal street gang activity (six counts), and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, all related to multiple separate incidents.
