Mr. Bobby L. Cox, of LaGrange, passed away on Jan. 29, 2024.

He was born in LaGrange on Oct. 30, 1939, to the late Emory Cox and Della Presley Cox.

He grew up on “Sugar Hill” in the beloved Dunson community, where he treasured many fond stories and memories that he loved to share. He enlisted in the United States Army on Dec. 12, 1961.

He married Dora Jean Gosdin Cox, the love of his life, on March 9, 1962. He was deployed to Korea several weeks later and served there for 13 months before returning home to his new bride. The newlyweds were stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, for 16 months, where they lived right outside the base and developed many special friendships with other young Army couples.

After being discharged from the Army, they returned to LaGrange, bought their first house, and Bobby began working for West Georgia Heating and Air as an HVAC service technician. After many years, he transitioned to Welch Heating and Air when Gene Welch branched off to begin his own business. Bobby worked alongside Gene Welch the entire time the company existed.

After Welch Heating and Air closed, Bobby began a second career as an industrial maintenance service technician at Goetze Gasket. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the entire plant and was a good friend to all.

After Goetze closed, he began working in the same capacity at Inflations Systems, Inc. He worked at ISI for ten years until it closed, and he finally retired at the age of 70.

Bobby was Baptist by faith.  He was ordained as a deacon at Gray Hill Baptist Church where he actively served for many years. He later joined Rosemont Baptist Church and cherished the friendship and fellowship of his Sunday School class.

In his free time, Bobby was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, and admiring God’s magnificent creation (including all creatures great and small!) Bobby was a devoted father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Emory Cox and Della Presley Cox, and his siblings, Fred Cox, Mildred Cox Hicks, and Goldman Cox.  He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Jean Gosdin Cox; his children, Gregory Todd Cox, Caroline Cox Davidson (Russ), and Christopher Mark Cox (Jennifer); his siblings, Ruth Cox East, Gene Cox, and Barbara Cox Arrington (Steve); his grandchildren, Katie Cox Esco, Jay Davidson, Joel Davidson, Annie Kate Davidson, Carter Cox, and Kathryn Cox; and his great-grandchild, Nolan Esco. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. The Memorial Service will be held at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand at 3 P.M. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 P.M. until service time.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Rd, LaGrange, Georgia 30240, in memory of Bobby Cox.
