After a hard-fought region matchup with Trinity Christian on the road Wednesday, the LaGrange softball team was right back at it on Thursday, earning a 14-7 win over Fayette County.

It was a pitcher’s duel early until the Grangers broke the game open with nine runs in the top of the third. An error allowed Abby McGill to score the first run of the game and the Grangers were off and running from there. Hudson Wood, fresh off her game-winning RBI in the seventh inning on Wednesday, delivered again with a two-run double. An error allowed Wood to score later in the inning. Freshman Dakota McDaniel drove home the fifth run of the game with a double. Kimberly Reynolds, who is limited to just hitting and not field duties with a shoulder injury, got in on the act with a one-run single.

The Grangers came full circle in the inning with McGill driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0. Carolyne Garcia kept up her monster start to the season, hitting a two-run bomb to make it 9-0. This was Garcia’s 3rd home run in just three games this season.

The Tigers would not go away quietly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to just four runs.

The Grangers were unfazed as the offense kept plugging away, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth. McDaniel hit her second double of the game to drive home the first run of the inning. Addyson Arnett scored on a passed ball to push the LaGrange lead out to 11-5.

The Grangers tacked on a 12th run in the top of the fifth courtesy of an error allowing Tatiana Dudley to score. The Tigers quickly got that run back in the bottom of the inning on an error from LaGrange.

The Grangers added one back to their lead in the sixth inning on a one-run single from Garcia. Back-and-forth it went with the Tigers scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Nothing changed in the top of the seventh as Ta’Niya Taylor hit a one-run single to make it 14-7.

Senior Kaylee Foster got her first start in the circle this season before making way for Zoe Thompson, who pitched the final five innings.

Garcia was an impressive 4-for-5 to keep up her hot start to her senior year. She is now up to 13 RBIs in just three games.

McDaniel and Dudley each had two hits while Reynolds, McGill, Wood, Taylor, Tatum Nation, Taylor Nation, Shelby Siggers and Jasia Swanson all got in on the fun with a hit apiece.

LaGrange is now 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in region play. The Grangers will travel to Lee County High School to take part in a tournament on Saturday.
