Martha Morgan Stanley, 96, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2024.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1928, to the late Lewis Carol Morgan and Nonie Bell Johnson Morgan in Chattahoochee County, Georgia.
Martha attended LaGrange College where she majored in religion.
She met her future husband, Tom, while attending college in his hometown after he returned from his service in the Navy.
They moved to Atlanta while he finished his college education at Georgia Tech and then returned to LaGrange to raise a family.
They were married for 66 years before his passing in 2015.
Martha was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, where she participated in many areas, including the UMW.
Martha loved children, and she taught Sunday school and kindergarten classes for over 40 years.
During her life, she enjoyed gardening, history, traveling, decorating, bridge, and being an avid tennis player. Martha lived her life with grace and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Stanley III; and a son James Timothy Stanley.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra (David) Redden and Melissa Stanley of LaGrange; two sons, Edwin (Dorraine) Stanley of LaGrange and Chris (Melanie) Stanley of Cordele, GA; a sister, Christine (Roy) Johnson; and a special niece Laurie (Charlie) Robarge all of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Martha wanted to express a special thank you to her caregivers, Tara Copeland, Dorothy Cunningham, and Ida Holloway.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 P.M. till 2 P.M. at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand.
Service will follow in chapel at 2 P.M.
Interment will be at Shadowlawn Cemetery.
