The City of LaGrange is considering annexing property on Stewart Road that could bring a development with more than 300 homes.

On Tuesday, the city council discussed a recommendation from the planning commission, which unanimously the parcel on Stewart Road be annexed into the city and that it be rezoned from Suburban Single-Family Medium Density Residential, which is a Troup County zoning designation, to Traditional Neighborhood Residential.

The change would also require that the city amend its Comprehensive Plan Character Area Map to classify the property as a Developing Neighborhood. All annexations require modifications to the Character area map, as they are new to the map.

City Planner Mark Kostial said the impetus behind this annexation and rezoning is to allow for a subdivision on a larger tract already in the city. Because the subdivision will exceed 120 lots, they’re required to have two points of ingress and egress to the site. In order to do so, the developers want to bring the parcel in question in and put a road through it.

The developers plan to put some homes on the parcel as well to connect with the larger tract.

Kostial said it’s anticipated that the subdivision will consist of approximately 325 to 330 homes.

The parcel the developers requested to annex is only about 1.7 acres.

The city council unanimously voted to call for a public hearing on the annexation and rezoning on Jan. 14.
