The LaGrange Police Department has completed a successful targeted crime suppression operation that resulted in four arrests and the removal of illegal guns and drugs from the streets.
The operation was completed on Monday, aimed at addressing criminal activity within the city in response to an uptick in criminal activity, including multiple violent offenses and property crimes.
Police Chief Garrett Fiveash said the operation was similar to one done last year when the LaGrange City Council authorized overtime to help tamp down crime in the city.
“We basically had four units stopping cars, and we think that was very effective with the crime rate dropping so much last year,” Fiveash said. “This year, because we’ve kind of got hot spot areas where everything is taking place, our special investigations unit is doing weekly crime assessment of the stats to see where and what the issues are.”
Fiveash said they have officers heavily patrol different hotspots that can change each day depending on detective work and confidential informants.
“They go and concentrate on whatever the hotspot is for today. It’s not necessarily going back to the same place all the time because the criminal element will figure out that’s where we are,” Fiveash said.
Over the course of the recent operation, LPD made four arrests, including individuals wanted for outstanding warrants and various criminal offenses. Two illegal firearms were seized along with illegal narcotics.
The operation resulted in Improved visibility and police presence in high-crime areas to deter further illegal activity and fostered community engagement efforts and stronger partnerships with residents and local organizations, LPD said.
“This operation is part of an ongoing commitment to public safety and crime prevention. The police department will continue to collaborate on intelligence-sharing and resource deployment, ensuring a rapid and effective response to criminal activity in LaGrange,” the department said in a press release.
