The Callaway girls basketball team earned its second critical region win on the second night of a back-to-back on Friday. The Cavaliers earned a 48-32 win over Jackson a night after upsetting Westside 35-33 on a dramatic game-winner with just 2.8 seconds on the clock.
If there were any signs of a hangover after Thursday night’s win they were not apparent against Jackson as the Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead on Friday and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, Callaway had put together a 13-7 lead.
The second quarter featured a stalemate as the Cavalier lead remained at six points heading into halftime.
The third quarter would prove to be decisive with the Cavaliers outscoring the Red Devils 15-5 to take a commanding 36-20 lead heading to the fourth and final quarter.
There was no way back for the Red Devils in the fourth quarter as Callaway choked the life out of the game.
Fresh off her game-winning shot on Thursday, Raniya Mahone led the team in scoring and secured a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Aubrey Chelcy was the only other Cavalier in double figures for scoring with 10 points. She also added five rebounds and three steals to the stat line.
Callaway improved to 11-7 overall and 6-2 in region play. The Cavaliers are riding a three-game winning streak with all three games coming this week against region opponents. Callaway will look to make it four wins in a row next Tuesday at home against region foe Pike County, a team the Cavaliers beat 74-40 on the road earlier this season.
