The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of Sheridan Construction’s new office on Lukken Industrial Drive in LaGrange on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Sheridan has been in LaGrange for five years and in Georgia for 77 years. The employee-owned construction company was founded in Macon, Georgia in 1947.

Caleb Hutchinson, Project Director and West Georgia Market Leader for Sheridan Construction, said the company isn’t owned by a single person.

“Every individual employee at Sheridan Construction is an owner of the company because we are employee-owned,” Hutchinson said. “They don’t have to invest anything except their time.”

Hutchinson explained that employees don’t have to buy into the company like stock options.

“It’s given to them every year, and it builds. It’s also government-regulated, so no one can buy more than anybody else. It’s equally shared amongst the employees of the company, which means that everybody has ownership and everybody takes pride in it and it gives back to the people that do all the hard work,” Hutchinson said.

Sheridan has completed several major construction projects in Troup County, including the award-winning Oakfuskee Conservation Center. The construction company won first place in the 2024 Build Georgia Awards for the project.

One of Sheridan’s first projects in Troup County was the Impact 360 Student Housing project in Pine Mountain. Since then they have built the medical facility next to the Walmart on Lafayette Parkway in LaGrange, housing for DASH in Hillside and worked on the Griggs Center pool to help get it done on time.

Sheridan was also recently awarded 2024 Large Business of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce.

Hutchinson said he was particularly proud of the Chamber award because it shows their commitment to the community.

“It shows the commitment of Sheridan Construction to their community and a recognition of that,” Hutchinson said. “Sheridan is very big into community involvement. United Way is always a big one. We work with them and we have board members on there.”
