In January 2025, detectives from the LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division initiated an inquiry into a burglary at the residence of the late Dr. Robert Copeland and his wife, Virginia Copeland.

As the investigation progressed, detectives established connections between this burglary and two additional cases, also uncovering evidence of an auto theft. The stolen vehicle was recovered, along with over $250,000 worth of items taken from the Copeland Estate.

Many of these items were personal property of the decedents and held sentimental value to the family.

In connection with these crimes, several individuals were apprehended and charged as follows:

4 Tomi Michelle Hampton – 5 counts of Burglary and 2 counts of Felony Theft

4 Harry King – Burglary and Felony Theft

4 Daniel Hutchins – 4 counts of Burglary

·4 Howard Sims – Felony Theft

None of these parties were on active parole or probation at the time of the arrest. This case is currently ongoing, and there may be additional charges brought forward as the investigation progresses.
