The LaGrange girls basketball team went into Monday needing a win over Mary Persons in their first game of the region tournament. The seventh-seeded Grangers pulled off the upset on the no. 6 seed, beating the Bulldogs 41-37 to keep their dreams of the playoffs alive.

Facing a 7-point deficit heading to the fourth and staring the end of the season in the eyes, the Grangers pulled off a rally to keep the season alive.

It was the 3-point shot that gave the Grangers life late. The team hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as LaGrange outscored the Bulldogs 17-6 in the final quarter of play.

Kelis Atkinson was the key figure on the night as two of those 3-pointers in the fourth were hers. She led the team with 14 points and was the only Granger to score in every quarter of play.

Madisyn Booker hit the other 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and scored five of her nine points in that period.

The game got off to a rough start and the game was tied 5-5 after a lackluster opening quarter.

The LaGrange offense continued to stall out in the second quarter and subsequently, the Grangers trailed 18-13 at halftime.

The LaGrange offense started to get going in the third quarter, but the Grangers ended up falling behind 31-24 heading to the fourth quarter.

Freshman Morgan Barber finished with eight points and her presence in the post was key on offense and defense.

LaGrange is now 8-17 on the season. The Grangers have now won three of their last four games but will need to pull off one more upset to clinch a playoff berth. LaGrange will take on no. 3 seed Sandy Creek on Tuesday at Upson-Lee. The Patriots won both regular season meetings by an average margin of over 47 points.
