The Callaway boys basketball team punched their ticket to the state playoff game on Tuesday, trouncing Pike County 68-32 in the Region 2-2A quarterfinals.

The Cavaliers left little doubt early, taking an 18-10 lead after a dominant first quarter on defense.

The Callaway offense hit a bit of a lull in the second quarter but were still able to put together a 29-18 halftime lead.

The Cavaliers would come out of the gates firing to start the second half. Callaway would outscore the Pirates 21-4 to put the game out of reach long before the final buzzer. Just for good measure, Callaway outscored the Pirates 18-10 in the final quarter of play.

Landon Thomas and BreShun Hall led Callaway in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The offense for Callaway was largely spread around with 11 players getting in the scoring column on Tuesday.

Kaiden James, Tyson Shells, AJ Williams and Pryce Blair all finished with seven points apiece.

Callaway is now 8-15 on the season enjoying its best stretch of the season, having won five of its last seven games. The Cavaliers’ quest to repeat as region champions will continue at Morgan County on Thursday as the team will take on Westside in the region tournament semifinals. Callaway lost both regular season matchups to the Seminoles.
