The Troup baseball team opened the Georgia Baseball Dugout Club tournament at Lake Point with a big 2-0 win over Denmark on Friday.
Friday’s contest was a true pitcher’s duel with hits coming in limited supply.
Both pitchers had a no-hit bid going through three innings until Fisher Baltzell got Troup a hit with a single to lead off the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of that very same inning, Denmark broke up Davis Moncus’ no-hit bid.
The game would stay in a scoreless deadlock until the Tigers broke the game open with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Carson Walker came through in a high-pressure situation, hitting a two-run single with two outs.
Moncus got the start on the mound for Troup and pitched a strong four innings, allowing just one hit on five strikeouts. Cason Spears came into the game in relief of Moncus, pitching the last three innings and allowing one hit on five strikeouts.
Baltzell, Walker and Torreion Delaney all had a hit each for the Tigers.
Troup improved to 2-0 on the season. The Tigers will return to action on Saturday at the Lake Point tournament. Troup will take Sequoyah and Milton as part of a doubleheader on Saturday with the opening pitch in game one set for 10 a.m. Troup’s first home game of the season is not until Feb. 21 vs. Callaway.
