The Troup girls basketball team pushed the no. 2 team in 3A, Fayette County, to the limit in a 52-41 loss in the region semifinals.

Fayette County got off to a dominant start, taking a 23-7 lead after the first quarter. Troup dug its heels in and refused to go away.

The Tigers chipped away at the deficit and cut the Fayette County lead to 28-16 heading into halftime.

Troup flipped the script in the third quarter. The Tigers would outscore Fayette County 17-5 in the third quarter to send the game tied at 33 heading to the fourth. Troup had a chance at the lead, but Sheniyah Philpot missed one of her two free throws late in the quarter to keep the game level.

All the good work the Tigers did in the third quarter quickly unraveled in the fourth. Fayette County started the quarter on a 7-0 run and never looked back as Troup struggled to break down the full-court press.

Troup was ultimately outscored 17-8 in the fourth as the offense could not match the same intensity from the third quarter.

Philpot led the way for the Troup offense on Thursday, scoring 13 points. Mia Wortham and Nasha Daniels scored 8 and 7 points, respectively.

Troup fell to 15-9  on the season and will be on the road to start the 3A state playoffs. The Tigers will play Trinity Christian in the third-place game on Friday at Sandy Creek.
