The Callaway baseball team finally got the 2025 season started on Monday, but it did not go scoring as planned as the lights went out in the fifth inning, causing the game to be called. Callaway was down 8-2 to Pepperrell in the top of the fifth inning when the lights went out.

The Cavaliers were unable to overcome an early hole they dug themselves into. The Dragons jumped on Callaway with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Pepperrell would make it 5-0 with four more runs in the second inning.

Callaway would eventually get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second but squandered a chance for more by leaving the bases loaded. Wesley Williams got the Cavaliers on the board with a two-run double.

It was truly a game of missed chances for the Cavaliers, who would go on to load the bases in the following inning as well but failed to bring a single one of them home.

The Dragons would make Callaway pay, scoring two runs in the fifth inning and leaving the bases loaded with no outs when the lights cut out.

Blake Harrington got the start on the mound for the Cavaliers and pitched just under four innings before making way for Jaxon Duncan.

Slade Hunt and Williams had the only two hits for Callaway.

The Cavaliers will look to play a full game on Tuesday away to Valley (AL).
