The Troup County School Board celebrated staff at its Tuesday work session. Teachers, administrative and support staff who have worked with the Troup school system for ten years were recognized. They will celebrate more anniversaries during the business meeting on Thursday, Feb. 20.

There were not many items on the consent agenda for the board to consider on Thursday. The board will vote on whether to opt in or out of HB 581, the floating homestead exemption. The system hosted three public hearings earlier this year and must file to opt out by March 1.

The superintendent asked that the board meeting schedule be amended. The March work session will be held on the 17th, and the business meeting will be on the 18th. The July work session will be held on July 16th, and business will be on the 17th.

Ryan Traylor, Director of Facilities and Construction, gave an update on construction.

“The soccer facilities are up and running. We’re just waiting on lockers for the locker room at Callaway High School,” Traylor said. “The tennis courts at Callaway High School and the tennis courts at Troup High School are complete.”

Traylor added that steel beams are being installed for Callaway’s indoor practice facility.

On Thursday’s consent agenda will be a resolution to opt out of HB 581, a resolution to adopt a proclamation for National School Counseling Week and to approve the changes to the board meeting schedule.
