Alpha Day at the Capitol 2025

The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Theta Nu Lambda Chapter, seated in LaGrange, GA ventured to the Georgia State Capitol for the 18th Annual Alpha Day at the Capitol along with several mentees from throughout the metro region this past week.
The local chapter, along with other Alphas from around the state of Georgia, were able to tour the capitol and sit in the gallery of both the House of Representatives and State Senate. Both Houses presented the group with resolutions and acknowledgements.
The group also held a panel discussion on voter issues, the future of voting in the state of Georgia and upcoming bills in the Legislature that would affect the quality of life of all citizens.
The panelists were fellow Alpha Brothers that serve in both chambers along with other Brothers that serve as lobbyists in the capitol.
The group also had the opportunity to speak with their respective Senator or Representative.
There were over 100 Alpha brothers and mentees in attendance.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded on Dec. 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York as the first collegiate Greek Letter Organization for African-American men.
The fraternity’s mission is: “Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.”
Some of the more prominent members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. include Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Quinn Buckner, Andrew Young, Maynard Jackson, Dick Gregory, Stuart Scott (ESPN), Thurgood Marshall, David Dinkins, Cornel West, Duke Ellington, John H. Johnson, Donny Hathaway, Lenny Wilkens, Lionel Richie, Roland Martin, Hill Harper, Jesse Owens, and Art Shell.
The local chapter serves the communities of Troup, Meriwether and Coweta counties.
