LaGrange boys soccer moves to no. 3 in coaches poll, wins region opener over Upson-Lee

The LaGrange boys soccer team is on a roll. The no. 3 ranked team in the 3A classification in the state of Georgia notched another big win early in their season on Tuesday, topping Upson-Lee 3-0 in the team’s region opener.

Sophomore Gio Ventura would open the scoring with 17 minutes left in the first half when he latched onto a pass from Aidan Collins. Collins, a senior, is leading the team with four assists in six games. 

Luis Morales, a junior midfielder, would double the LaGrange advantage with just a shade over three minutes to go in the first half on an assist by Bruce Martinez. It was Morales’ team-leading third goal of the season. 

The Grangers would add one more goal to their tally in the second half. Steve Oh would find the back of the net on an assist from freshman Brian Suburan. 

Chandler Gholston kept his second clean sheet of the season in goal.

LaGrange has won three games in a row to improve to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in region play. The two losses came by one goal in the opening game of the season and then a penalty shootout in the third game. 

LaGrange will look to make it four wins in a row on Friday when the team hosts Mary Persons.
