With Monday’s 4-1 win over Shaw, the Callaway baseball team has won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
It did not take the Cavaliers long to take the lead as they opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. An error allowed Jaxon Duncan to score the first run of the game and the Cavaliers never looked back from there. Luke Taylor would hit a single to bring home the second before Corday McLean stole home for the final run of the inning.
The Cavaliers would tack on a run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Duncan scored on a passed ball.
Shaw would eventually get on the board with a run in the top of the sixth inning, but starting pitcher Blake Harrington did well to work around some danger and ensure the Cavalier lead stayed intact.
Harrington was superb in his complete-game showing. The junior allowed just one hit and one earned run on 11 strikeouts.
Duncan and Taylor led the Callaway offense with two hits apiece. Harrington and Jeremiah Staples had a hit each.
Callaway improved to 3-4 on the season. The Cavaliers will travel to Lamar County on Tuesday before wrapping three games in as many days on Wednesday at home against Dutchtown.
