The Callaway baseball team has found its groove. The Cavaliers rattled off their third win in a row on Tuesday, beating Lamar County 12-0 in five innings.

The Cavaliers opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning courtesy of a passed ball.

Callaway would take complete control of the game in the second inning with four additional runs. Cass Fuller laid down a sacrifice bunt to double the Cavalier lead. Jeremiah Staples and Blake Harrington hit back-to-back one-run singles to make it 4-0. Harrington scored the final run of the inning on a pick-off attempt at first base.

Callaway’s offense kept adding on with Lashun Gates driving in a run with a single in the third inning to push the lead out to 6-0.

The Cavaliers would put the game completely out of reach with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Brody Swanson hit a one-run single to start the scoring off. Gates and Jackson Butts would follow with back-to-back RBI singles to give the away team a 9-0 lead. Wesley Williams singled to drive home a run before Harrington’s double drove home the final two runs of the game.

Harrington led the Callaway offense with three hits while Luke Taylor, Gates and Swanson all had two hits apiece. Butts, Williams and Steples finished with a hit each.

Slade Hunt pitched all five innings for Callaway and was dealing on the mound, allowing just three hits on five strikeouts.

Callaway improved to 4-4 on the season. The Cavaliers will be back on the diamond on Wednesday at home against Dutchtown as they go for the third win in as many days.
