The Lafayette Christian baseball team cruised to a 16-1 home win over Manchester High School on Tuesday.

The Cougars mean business from the offset and took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Logan Childree drove in the first on a ground out. An error allowed the second run to score.

After Manchester cut the Cougar lead in half in the top of the second, Lafayette Christian completely blew the game open in the bottom of the second with six runs. Dustin Ogle scored the opening run of the inning on a wild pitch. Logan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 4-1. A wild pitch would allow another run to score before Josiah Hughes brought home two runs with a single. Hughes would reach home later in the inning on an error for the final run of the inning.

The Cougars continued to plug away and stretched their lead out to 12-1 with four runs in the third inning. Dalton Colquett drove home the opening run of the inning with a single. A fielder’s choice allowed a second run in the inning to score. Hughes singled to drive home the final two runs of the inning.

Lafayette Christian would end the game by mercy rule with four runs in the fourth inning. JP Karvelas got the scoring started with a one-run single. Landon Childree was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive home the second run of the inning. Logan was hit by a pitch to drive home the third run before an error allowed the final run of the game to score. 

Cody Batistini got the start on the mound and pitched one inning before making way for Hughes, who threw the final three innings for the Cougars. Hughes allowed just one hit on seven strikeouts. 

Hughes had a monster showing on offense with two hits and six RBIs. Ogle also finished with two hits while Batistini, Colquett and Karvelas all had one apiece. 

Lafayette Christian bounced back from its first loss of the season in style to move to 5-1. The Cougars will rematch Manchester on the road on Thursday.
