The 7th annual Diverse Power Grand Prix had a new venue, Kia Georgia, and it was another big success as 45 GreenPower teams (19 middle schools, 25 high schools, 1 college) flocked to Troup County for the race, making this the largest GreenPower race ever in the state of Georgia.
This was a 69% increase in teams from last year’s race. Over 500 students participated in the race with over 1,000 total people in attendance.
It was a strong showing for local teams as Gardner Newman, Long Cane, Callaway High, LaGrange, Troup and ThINC Academy all took to the tarmac on Saturday.
The prestigious multi-national championship-winning program at Long Cane set the standard for the middle school teams. The Long Cane 8th grade (999 team) placed 1st overall and the 7th grade (000 team) placed 2nd overall in the modified division.
The 8th grade (999 team) set the track record out of all 45 teams competing – 59 laps.
The Long Cane 6th grade (555 team) placed 2nd overall. They haven’t placed lower than 2nd overall all season (6 events so far, 2 more to go). The 6th grade team had the highest team presentation score (99 out of 100) out of all 19 middle school teams.
Gardner Newman had two cars going in the middle school stock division, 426 and 706. The former finished eighth and the latter finished in 10th place.
At the high school level, Troup paced the pack. The Tigers, fresh off their first national championship last year, are putting together another strong season with the 556 car finishing 1st overall in the stock division. Troup’s modified car (250) finished in seventh place. The Tigers had a 99 for the team presentation score.
Callaway High also fielded two cars with the 110 car placing fourth overall in the stock division and the 810 car finishing in 12th for modified.
The LaGrange High Grangers fielded two cars just like their counterparts from Troup and Callaway. LaGrange’s 119 car placed sixth in the stock division while the 273 modified car placed fourth.
ThINC Academy finished in ninth place in the stock division.
The Springwood Middle School GreenPower team, which features students from Troup County, took part in their first race on Saturday. The Wildcats finished in seventh place for the stock division.
With the 2025 Diverse Power Grand Prix being the biggest on record so far and the rapid growth of GreenPower racing across the country (and the globe), there is no chance of the annual event slowing down any time soon.
