The Troup baseball team earned a hard-fought road win over Pike County on Tuesday, trumping the Pirates 13-1.

Troup opened the scoring in the top of the second courtesy of Chase Mosley scoring on an error. The Tigers would eventually double their lead with a run in the top of the fifth as Garrison Edwards scored on an error.

The Pirates would make things interesting in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored a run, but Troup would quickly retaliate.

The Tigers were left unfazed by the Pike County rally attempt and piled on seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-1 lead. An error allowed the first run in the inning to score. Davis Moncus hit a single to bring home the next two. Carson Walker got an RBI on a ground out followed by an error allowing an additional run to score and give Troup a 7-1 lead. Mosley hit a single to drive home the eighth run of the game for the Tigers. Mosley would score the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

Troup continued to batter the Pirates, adding four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. A fielder’s choice allowed Fisher Baltzell to score the first run of the inning. Carson Walker hit a one-run single to bring home the second. Courtney Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 12-1. Mosley would double to bring home the final run of the game.

Mosley and Moncus shouldered the offensive load with three hits each. Walker and Torreion Delaney finished with two hits each while Baltzell, Edwards, Jake Perry and Chambers Glisson each had a hit.

Walker got the start on the mound and pitched a strong 4 ⅔ innings. He allowed just two hits on five strikeouts before being replaced by Cason Spears. Carson Williams closed the game out on the mound for Troup.

Troup improved to 5-5 on the season. The Tigers open region play with a home game against Upson-Lee on Thursday, just the second home game of the season for Troup.
