Nearly a year after her passing in a horrific car accident, Mary Joy Moosman’s impact is still being felt far and wide. On Saturday, the Troup girls soccer team honored Moosman by retiring her jersey and enshrining it in the Troup High Hall of Memories forever.

“Today we are dedicating her jersey to the THS Hall of Memories in our new athletic facility where it will be displayed to honor Mary Joy and serve as an inspiration to future Tiger student-athletes,” former long-time Troup soccer coach Eddie Lawson said.

In lieu of the usual blue and gold, the stadium had as much pink, Moosman’s favorite color, as possible. They still donned the usual blue and gold jerseys, but the entire girl’s team had pink bows in their hair, a trademark of Moosman.

Instead of using eye black to make themselves look as intimidating as possible, the boys used pink to show their support.

On the sideline, coaches and players wore a Troup soccer shirt, specially made with a pink Troup logo and Moosman’s number on it.

“Mary Joy Moosman was a phenomenal student-athlete who lettered in soccer and cheerleading during all four years at THS,” Lawson said. “She was a vibrant, caring, exceptional member of our program and a true leader and role model for her fellow students.”

Even as May 17, 2024, the day of the accident, gets further and further away, Moosman’s impact only continues to grow. Her legacy lives through the soccer team, the cheerleading squad and so much more as the community continues to rally around the Moosman family.
