Callaway made it four wins in a row with a dominant 15-4 win over Dutchtown on Wednesday. It was also the team’s third win in as many days.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Jaxon Duncan and the defense did well to work out of trouble and insure Dutchtown did not add to its lead as the Bulldogs left the bases loaded to end the half inning.
Callaway replied quickly with Blake Harrington’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first giving the Cavaliers their first lead of the game.
Callaway would add to its lead in the second inning with five runs. A balk allowed the first run of the inning to score. An error allowed a second run to score in the second. A passed ball allowed Cass Fuller to score and give the Cavaliers a 5-1 lead. Slade Hunt got in on the fun with a two-out two-run single.
Dutchtown got three runs back in the third inning to cut the Callaway lead down to just three runs.
The Callaway offense never slowed down and added four more runs to its tally in the fourth inning. Gates and Jackson Butts took back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to drive home the opening two runs of the inning. An error allowed an additional two runs to score and push the Callaway lead out to 15-4.
Duncan got the start on the mound for Callaway and pitched two innings before making way for Butts, who pitched the final three innings.
Harrington had a monster game to lead the Callaway offense with two hits and four RBIs. Hunt, Wesley Williams and Brody Swanson all had a hit each.
Callaway is above .500 (5-4) for the first time this season. The Cavaliers will get a rest to end the week before returning to action on Monday at home against Lamar County.
