In just their second home game of the season, the Troup baseball team outmuscled Trinity Christian 3-2 to kickstart the region schedule.
The Tigers opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Carson Walker.
The game would stay locked at 1-0 until Fisher Baltzell hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
The Lions would attempt a late rally, generating two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases to start the top of the seventh inning. The Lions scored two runs, but it was not enough as pitcher David Moncus worked his way out of trouble alongside some strong play from his defense behind him.
Offense came at a premium for both teams with Troup outhitting Trinity Christian 5-2. The Tiger offense was spread out with Baltzell, Chase Mosley, Brady Willis, Moncus and Ethan Goff getting a hit apiece.
Moncus got the start and the mound and was superb, pitching six innings in which he struck out eight batters and allowed just no hits. Cason Spears pitched the final inning for the Tigers and earned a save.
Troup moved to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in the region. The Tigers will return to action on Friday in a rematch against the Lions on the road.
