The LaGrange baseball earned a hard-fought 4-1 region win over Whitewater on Tuesday.
The Grangers drew first blood with a run in the second inning. Jackson Bozeman got an RBI groundout to get the home team on the board.
LaGrange would score three more runs in the bottom of the second as the early offensive surge proved to be enough. Mason Calhoun walked with the bases loaded to double the LaGrange lead. Brandon Bennet would drive home the final two runs of the game for the Grangers with a double.
The game would stay locked at 4-0 until the Wildcats attempted a late rally in the top of the seventh. The Wildcats got a run back but left runners stranded on first and second to end the inning as LaGrange escaped with an important region win.
Bennett powered the Granger offense with two hits and two RBIs. Calhoun, Grady Westmoreland and Kayden Sutton all had a hit apiece.
Calhoun started the game on the mound for LaGrange and was superb in his four innings of work, allowing just two hits on four strikeouts. Westmoreland pitched the final three innings on the mound, allowing just two hits and earning the save.
LaGrange has won five games in a row to improve to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Grangers will rematch the Wildcats on the road on Thursday in another important region matchup.
