It is that dreaded time of year again, daylight savings time. In the Spring, most Americans (with the exception of Arizona and Hawaii, however, the Navajo Nation does observe the practice) have agreed to ‘spring forward’ by an hour to adjust to the dark winter. For many, this means losing an hour of sleep, which makes it a perfect time to remind motorists to be extra cautious.
Adults are not the only people getting up earlier for work. With sunrise being delayed by an hour, children have to walk, bike and drive to school in the dark as the earth’s rotation settles into our man-made hours.
While this means sunset is also an hour later, we still haven’t gotten into our late summer nights. Let’s all remember that includes when kids are coming home from clubs, softball practices and baseball games.
So, make sure to finish the coffee before leaving, your headlights are working and you slow down in school zones. This is true year-round, but daylight savings is a good time for a reminder. Be safe out there, Troup!
