Troup hammers Fayette County on the road

The Troup baseball team brushed aside Fayette County with ease on Thursday, earning a dominant 16-0 region win on the road.

The Tigers opened the scoring early with three runs in the first inning. Davis Moncus hit a triple to drive home the opening run. Carson Walker doubled to drive home Moncus for the second run. Brady Willis hit a sacrifice fly to drive home the final run of the inning.

The Tigers would double their lead with an additional three runs in the top of the third inning. Willis drove home the first two runs of the inning with a single. Courtney Wilson drove in the final run of the inning with a triple.

Troup would score 10 runs in the top of the fourth to force the mercy rule after four innings. Walker hit a one-run single to push the lead out to 7-0. Fisher Baltzell hit a sacrifice fly to drive home the second run of the inning. Willis continued in his big day with a one-run single, making it 9-0. Wilson doubles to drive home two more runs. The Tigers would score the final five runs of the game on a series of errors. 

Willis led Troup with four RBIs while going 2-for-2 from the plate. Walker led the Tigers with three hits. Wilson finished with two hits while Moncus, Garrison Edwards, Ethan Goff, Chase Mosley and Torreion Delaney all finished with a hit each. 

Cason Spears got the start on the mound and pitched 2 ⅓ innings while allowing just one hit. Carson Williams pitched the final inning and change in relief and also allowed just one hit. 

Troup improved to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in region play. The Tigers will return to action on Friday with a road game against Mary Persons.
