LaGrange mercy rules Spalding

The LaGrange High baseball team cruised past Spalding to a region win on Tuesday. It was all Grangers at The Branch with the home team earning a dominant 10-0 win. 

LaGrange opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Mason Calhoun hit a sacrifice fly to get the Grangers on the board. Brandon Bennett hit a one-run single followed by a Cooper Stephens RBI double to make it 3-0.

The Grangers did not stop there, adding two runs to their lead in the second inning. Gryson Cockrell drove home the first run of the inning with a double. Calhoun would hit a one-run single later in the inning to give LaGrange a 5-0 advantage. 

The Grangers would completely blow the game open with four additional runs in the fourth inning. A Cockrell RBI ground out made it 6-0. Stephens singled to bring home two more runs. Cam Kissun drove home the final run of the inning with a single. 

LaGrange would add a 10th and final run in the sixth inning to end the game by mercy rule. Parker Poe hit a one-run double to end the game.

Stephens led the LaGrange offense with two hits and three RBIs. Bennett also had two hits to his name while Poe, Kissun, Cockrell, Grady Westmoreland, Rob Skinner and Kayden Sutton all had one apiece. 

Sinjon Lash got the start on the mound for the Grangers and pitched a no-hitter through three innings. Bennett pitched the final two innings in relief and allowed just one hit. 

LaGrange improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Grangers will travel to Sandy Creek on Thursday before turning around and hosting the Patriots on Friday.
