The Troup baseball team earned a hard-fought win over Mary Persons on Tuesday to complete the season sweep of the Bulldogs. The Tigers had to dig deep to pull off a 6-1 victory.

The Tigers drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the second courtesy of a wild pitch that allowed Fisher Baltzell to score. The Troup lead would be short-lived, however.

Mary Persons knotted the game up with a run in the top of the third.

Troup would quickly regain the lead with a run in the bottom of that very same inning. Davis Moncus grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score, giving Troup a 2-1 lead.

The fifth inning would be crucial for the Tigers as they added two runs to their lead and got some breathing room. A hit by pitch and a walk with the bases loaded allowed the two runs to score.

Troup was not done there, adding two additional runs in the sixth inning. An error allowed the first run of the inning to score followed by Torreion Delaney stealing home to make it 6-1.

Hits were hard to come by for the Tigers as some timely offense came in clutch. Garrison Edwards, Davis Moncus and Delaney all had a hit apiece for the Troup offense.

Jake Perry got the start on the mound for the Tigers and was superb in his six innings of work, striking out seven batters on just four hits and one earned run. Cason Spears pitched the final inning in relief, allowing one hit and earning the save.

Troup has now won four games in a row to improve to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Tigers will look to make it five wins in a row on Thursday when region foe Spalding comes to The Jungle.
