On Tuesday, the Troup County Board of Commissioners discussed a request from West Point to help pay for a water line on Warner Road.

The city is planning a 12-inch water line running along Warner Road from Webb-Bartley Road to service a commercial truck stop/parking and they asked the county for assistance with running the water line.

About nine residents live on Warner Road and they wanted to know if the county could help out, material-wise, said Commissioner Rex Scott, who had been involved in the discussion with the city.

County Manager Eric Mosley recommended approving funding to purchase fire hydrants to be installed along the lines to be consistent with what the county has done with the City of LaGrange.

“My recommendation would be to approve funding for purchasing the actual hydrants to be installed. The contractor who is building the truck parking has agreed to do all the labor, and we would just pay for the materials for the fire hydrants,” Mosley said.

The fire hydrants would cost $31,600, Mosley said, adding that additional residents could tap onto the extended water line.

“When you look through the actual estimates of the cost of materials, they’ve actually bought the taps part of this process. So I would assume they’re assuming that people may tap onto it along the way,” Mosley said. “Obviously if you run a 12-inch water line into the unincorporated county, there certainly is some potential for larger development as well and as I understand it on the north side, coming from Kia, there’s even sewer there as well.”

“With sewer and water at a location like this, that does certainly have potential for growth,” Mosley said.

County Commissioner Morris Davis added that it also increases the possibility of the area being annexed into the city as well.
