The Troup baseball team earned a comfortable 13-0 win over Spalding on Thursday.
The Tigers opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning. An error allowed the first run to score and a walk with the bases loaded made it 2-0 Troup.
Troup took a commanding 7-0 lead in the second inning as the team added five more runs to their tally. Davis Moncus singled to drive home the first followed by a Carson Walker two-run double. The final two runs of the inning would reach home on an error by the Jaguar defense.
The Tiger offense did not slow down there and completely broke the game open with four runs in the third inning. Moncus kept up his hot start to the game with a two-run double. Chase Mosley would send Moncus home later in the inning on a groundout. Ethan Goff scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball to give Troup an 11-0 lead.
Two additional Troup runs scored in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of an error by Spalding’s defense.
Moncus was simply superb from the plate to lead the Troup offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Edwards also had a big offensive showing with three hits and two runs scored.
Walker, Mosley, Trey Dean and Chandler Glisson all had a hit apiece for Troup. Dean led the team with three runs scored.
Mosley got the start on the mound for Troup and pitched a five-inning complete game in which he allowed just one hit on seven strikeouts.
Troup has now won five games in a row to improve to 11-6 overall and 6-1 in region play. The Tigers will rematch Spalding on the road Friday.
