The LaGrange girls golf team was back in action on Thursday, hosting the annual Lady Granger Invitational at Highland Country Club. It was a strong showing for the hometown Grangers, who finished sixth out of 15 teams with a team score of 306.
The field was tightly contested with the Grangers finishing just one stroke ahead of Druid Hills in seventh place and finishing just four strokes out of a fifth-place finish with Columbus shooting a 302.
LaGrange finished 30 strokes ahead of the only other 3A team in the tournament, Upson-Lee, who is also in the Grangers’ area.
Caroline Brown powered LaGrange on Thursday with a score of 97, good enough for 12th 12th-lowest score in the field. The junior has been the steady hand on the team this season.
Brown was joined on the course by a trio of seniors —- Sydnee Jennings, Zoe Thompson and Hudson Wood. Wood had the second-best showing for the Grangers, shooting a 103 to finish in 26th place.
Jennings shot a 106 while Thompson finished with a score of 113 (only the lowest three scores counted toward the overall team score).
Carrollton came to LaGrange and dominated the Lady Granger Invitational, shooting a team score of 242 — 29 strokes ahead of Starr’s Mill in second place.
The LaGrange girl’s golf season is just starting to get into full swing. The Grangers will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Valdosta to participate in the Lowndes Lady Viking Invitational.
