The Troup baseball team brushed aside Spalding on Friday night for a comfortable 12-2 region win.
The Tigers would not take long to break the deadlock, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Davis Moncus sent the first run home with a triple. Carson Walker would send Moncus home with a sacrifice fly, giving Troup an early 2-0 advantage.
The game did not always look like it would be comfortably in Troup’s favor. The Jaguars struck back with a run in the bottom of the first, but it did little to halt the Tigers’ momentum.
Troup retook a 2-run lead in the top of the second courtesy of a Jake Perry one-run single.
The Tigers would go on to blow the game wide open with six runs in the third inning. Brady Willis hit a single to drive home the first run followed by a Trey Dean RBI double. Perry singled later in the inning to drive home two runs to give Troup a 7-1 lead. An error allowed the final two runs of the inning to score.
Troup tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. An error allowed the first run to score followed by Chandler Glisson driving home the final two runs of the inning with a single.
The Jaguars would score a second run in the fifth inning but it served as only a slight consolation as the game ended by mercy rule.
Troup’s offense was spread around with Fisher Baltzell, Torreion Delaney, Perry and Willis all registering two hits each. Moncus, Glisson, Garrison Edwards, Chase Mosley and Ethan Goff had one hit apiece.
Moncus got the start on the mound and pitched two innings before passing the baton off to Cason Spears and Carson Williams.
Troup has now won six games in a row to improve to 12-6 overall and 7-1 in region play. The Tigers will have a massive region matchup at home against crosstown rival LaGrange next Tuesday.
