On March 22, at approximately 2:24 p.m. an inmate in Troup County Jail was found hanging from a bed sheet and unresponsive in his cell during a routine head count by a detention officer. The officer immediately called for assistance and other jail staff along with jail nursing staff responded to the cell.

Life-saving measures began on the inmate and he was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The inmate is identified as Keith Hudgeons, 34 years of age, and was in jail on charges of Criminal Trespass and Giving False Name both misdemeanor charges.

As standard procedure, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations was notified and is conducting an independent investigation. Nothing further at this time.
