LaGrange Police are investigating the apparent murder of Zymerious Cofield, 22.

Police found Cofield Saturday night, around 10:40 p.m., after responding to the 900 block of Mason Street about reports of a shooting. 

Cofield was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Police and other first responders began life-saving efforts and Cofield was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, but the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the shooting.

Police say during the investigation, they determined that the shooting occurred during an altercation between Cofield and Dewan Harden, Jr. Harden was located and apprehended by West Point Police and subsequently transported to the LaGrange Police Department. He was later moved to the Troup County Jail, where he was charged with murder.

Harden, 18, was not on active parole or probation at the time of the arrest.
