Lewis Orr Powell, III, of LaGrange, Georgia, peacefully passed away on March 22, 2025, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, he was 74-years old.

Lewis was born July 19, 1950, in Newnan, Georgia, the son of Lewis Orr “Bud” Powell, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Brown. He was raised in the family home on LaGrange Street in Newnan and attended the public schools, eventually graduating from Newnan High School in 1968. Subsequently, he attended the University of Georgia where he received his pharmacy degree. While there, he met Janet Holliday of Greenville, Georgia; they married in Greenville in 1974.

Moving to Troup County in 1978, Lewis served the community as a pharmacist in many local pharmacies including LaGrange Pharmacy, West Georgia Medical Center, and Corley Drugs. He also worked for his father-in-law’s company, Holliday Construction, for a number of years.

For more than forty-five years, he was a devoted member of LaGrange First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Builders Class and taught Sunday school. Volunteer missions took him to Slidell, Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina and rural Appalachia, as well as to Haiti and Honduras. In his retirement, he volunteered locally with Circles of Troup County, Meals on Wheels, and Troup Cares. In his leisure, he enjoyed running, traveling, working in his yard, and cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet Holliday Powell, his children Lewis Orr Powell, IV and his fiancée Cyron J. Trazona of LaGrange; Lauren Elizabeth Powell of Charleston, South Carolina; Lindsey Powell Kontovich and her husband Patrick Kontovich of Knoxville, Tennessee, and grandchildren Benton Powell Kontovich and Nora Lynn Kontovich; his sister, Josephine Powell Goodstein, and brother Brown Powell and his wife Marie Powell, all of Newnan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First United Methodist Church of LaGrange.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange.
