The Troup baseball team earned a massive region win over rival LaGrange on Tuesday, earning an 8-1 victory for their seventh straight win.

“We aren’t really doing much wrong right now,” starting pitcher Jake Perry said. “We are hitting the ball well, hitting it out of the park and all our pitchers are controlling the mound.”

The Tigers opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fisher Baltzell got Troup on the board with a two-run single.

“This is my last time playing LaGrange on this field and it feels good to beat them like that,” said Baltzell, a senior and leader for the team.

An error allowed a third run to score in the inning.

LaGrange struck back with a run in the top of the second to put a dent in the Troup lead.

Kayden Sutton singled to drive home the run for LaGrange. The Grangers had a chance for more, but starting pitcher Jake Perry got two outs for Troup to strand a pair of LaGrange base runners on first and second base.

“You just have to treat it like any other game or any other moment and not focus on who is on base and what the dugout is yelling at you,” Perry said.

Perry would help his cause from the plate, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

“It was a total team effort tonight, it was not just about me,” the ever-humble Perry proclaimed.

One batter later, Garrison Edwards added a run to the Troup lead with a one-run single. Parker Townsend would score on a steal of a home, making it 6-1 Troup.

The Tigers were not done there. Fisher Baltzell lifted the home crowd off its feet with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

“To do that in this stadium in that game is special, it’s hard to find the right words to describe this feeling I have right now,” Baltzell said.

A passed ball allowed Troup to add an eighth run to its tally on a passed ball.

Baltzell was a force for Troup’s offense. The senior went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Edwards also had a strong offensive showing for Troup, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. . Mosley and Torreion Delaney each had a hit for the home team.

Perry started on the mound for Troup and was immense in his 5 ⅔ innings of work, striking out five and allowing just three hits and one earned run.

Cason Spears pitched the final inning and change to shame the door on any LaGrange rally attempt.

Mason Calhoun started on the mound for LaGrange and went 3 ⅔ innings before making way for Sinjon Lash. Caleb Allen pitched the final inning for the Grangers.

Hits were hard to come by for LaGrange with Sutton, Mason Calhoun and Rob Skinner having one hit apiece.

LaGrange fell to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in region play. The Tigers have now won seven games in a row to improve to 13-6 overall and 8-1 in the region. The two teams will rematch at The Branch on Thursday in a game that will have major region consequences.
