A big sale of used books with a special twist is on tap at LaGrange Memorial Library.
The sale is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 4, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the library at 115 Alford St. Customers may buy a large paper grocery bag at the door for $5 and fill it with as much as they like. Books will also be for sale individually at $1 for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks.
New this year is a special clearance hour from 1 to 2 p.m. on April 5 during which customers may fill their own boxes or bags for $2 each.
A representative of Friends of the Library, which is sponsoring the sale, said the group has thousands of books donated by residents to put on the tables. The biggest category is fiction, but there is also nonfiction of all sorts — cooking, history, biography, travel, literature and poetry, religion, gardening, crafts and hobbies, sports and more.
The group has a very large number of children’s and young adult books, thanks in large part to an area high school, which donated many volumes from its shelves.
The Friends of the Library bookshop also will be open during the sale, but regular prices will apply there. Cash, check and plastic will be accepted at both the sale and the bookshop.
Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization of volunteers which raises money to support library programs.
